I do not understand the reasoning behind using an altered bat. But if you go to any benefit tournament or any tournament that isn't regulated and you will see them there. Can a team that uses altered bats really be determined the best team? After all, they had to cheat to get there. But if they don't then the team that cheats the most will win. So what is a team to do? USSSA is trying to fix this by updating the bats. My understanding is that if a player tries to alter a bat that is made after 2012, then the bat will break. But will this really fix the problem? Won't people that alter bats figure out a way to alter the new bats? Will the new bats be as durable or will they break down quicker? I have discovered that a high-end bat will get hotter as it is used until all the material within the bat is broken up. Then you might as well throw it away for what it's worth. So will the new bats break down quicker? And please do not mistake a high-end bat for an altered bat. If I spend $300 on a bat, it will hit better than a $50 bat from Wal-Mart.
I hope that teams in the Jeff Davis Adult Recreation league would have the decency to not use an altered bat. These bats are dangerous and could kill someone if a ball hits them in the right spot. USSSA is not allowing bats made before 2012. Jeff Davis Adult Recreation will not ban bats because of the year that they were made. Rest assured the bat that you have been using for the last two seasons will not be banned in league.
